Biographical/Historical Note

Ron Rash was born on September 25, 1953, in Chester, South Carolina, and was raised in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. Rash is an Appalachian author known for his novels, short stories, and poetry, often set in the hills of western North Carolina. He received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Gardner-Webb University and a Master's in Creative Writing from Clemson University. He has published four collections of poetry and six short story collections.

Rash is perhaps best known for his novels including One Foot in Eden (2002), Saints at the River (2004), The World Made Straight (2006), Serena (2008), The Cove (2012), and Above the Waterfall (2015). In addition to his induction into the South Carolina Academy of Authors, awards received by Rash include The Sherwood Anderson Prize (1996), Weatherford Award for Best Novel of 2004 (Saints at the River), the James Still Award from the Fellowship of Southern Writers (2005), the Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award (2010, for Burning Bright), and the David J. Langrum, Sr. Prize in American Historical Fiction (2012, for The Cove).

The collection consists of one postcard-type card with poem "Good Friday, 1995, Driving Westward" printed on one side and color photo of Ron Rash on other. Printed on occasion of his induction into South Carolina Academy of Authors, Spartanburg, South Carolina, April 17, 2010.
