Biographical/Historical Note

The Blue Valley Gem Company was a company that mined and sold gemstones and other mined elements. The manager D.W.L. Wagoner was an expert on precious stones in the United States. The stocks were being offered by Geo. L. McKay and Company of New York in 1906. One of the papers of this collection offers a full karat genuine amethyst for purchasing at least $50 in stocks with the company.

The land on which precious and semi-precious gems owned by Blue Valley Gem Company was 2,067 acres on the summit of the Blue Ridge Mountains one mile wide and 3 miles long on Scaly Mountain in Macon County, North Carolina, obtained through D.W.L. Wagoner.
