Abstract:

The Appalachian Regional Ephemera Collection contains flyers, posters, postcards, brochures, travel guides, booklets, programs, and other ephemera from Appalachian towns or with Appalachian themes. There are real estate booklets with northwestern North Carolina houses for sale, as well as brochures of businesses, museums, and tourist attractions of Appalachia.

This artificial collection was compiled by the staff of the W.L. Eury Appalachian Collection prior to 2001. Any Appalachian regional ephemera donated or purchased that is not part of an existing or incoming collection is housed with this collection.

Scope and Contents

The Appalachian Regional Ephemera Collection contains flyers, posters, postcards, brochures, travel guides, booklets, programs, and other ephemera from Appalachian towns or with Appalachian themes. From these informational items, one can track progress, or lack of, in specific areas or for specific subjects, such as real estate or businesses.

Arrangement

This collection is arranged into seven series. Within each series the files are sorted either by location or subject. The Postcard Collection was merged into this collection as Series VI and is filed by state then city. Duplicates of postcards may be found.

The oversize and extra-large oversize posters/flyers were sorted primarily by subject, with the extra-large ones housed in box 31.

There are two color photographs of quilts made in Appalachia that are housed in Cold Storage.

Access Restrictions

This collection is open for use in the Dougherty Reading Room without restrictions.

Acquisitions Information

Various individuals donated materials for the collection to the W. L. Eury Appalachian Collection. Others were purchased from vendors. The collection was merged with AC.306: Posters Collection to establish one collection of ephemeral material. This collection also merged with AC.120: Appalachian Regional Postcard Collection in 2015.
