Biographical/Historical Note

"The Cherokees" exhibit was produced courtesy of the Exhibits Program within Appalachian State University's College of Continuing Education with grant funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The outdoor drama "Unto These Hills" debuted in 1950 and tells the story of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.

Scope and Contents

The collection contains documents and photographs related to the Cherokee exhibit. The documents within this collection offer basic information on Cherokee history and culture. The photographs are of the "Unto These Hills" production and the Oconaluftee Indian Village circa 1950.

This collection is open for use in the Dougherty Reading Room. An appointment for research is recommended. The Dougherty Reading Room is located on the 4th floor of Belk Library in Special Collections.
