Abstract:

The Sallie Greene Allison Papers consist of family history papers, photographs, slides, correspondence, photograph scrapbooks, and other documents of Sallie Greene Allison and her family of Henderson County, North Carolina. This collection documents the life of an unmarried, educated southwestern North Carolina woman.

Creator: Allison, Sally Green

Biographical/Historical Note

Sallie Green Allison was a single, educated woman of Henderson County, North Carolina who taught for several years. There are several school group photographs as well as individuals that prove she taught various ages in different schools throughout North Carolina. She was also a family historian, with family histories and photographs, and one relative stated she planned to write a family history book. Her genealogical research is part of this collection.

Scope and Contents

In this collection are receipts and personal papers of the family members of Sallie Green Allison dated to 1852. As stated by a family member, her intent was to write a family history book, and copies of photographs, personal papers of family members, as well as her genealogical research papers show this was the case. Her collection included several local church histories linked to her family, her grandfather Isaac Allison, Sr.'s personal papers, many photographs and slides, and numerous birth/wedding/death announcements from newspapers. Unfortunately the majority of these articles are not dated. The color photographs, negatives, and slides are stored in Cold Storage, and the black and white photographs are filed in the Closed Stacks boxes. Many photos are identified, but many are not.

Arrangement

Files in this collection are sorted by subject, arranged alphabetically. There are several oversize folders in the Closed Map Cabinet 4, and some color photographs, negatives, and slides in Cold Storage.
