Biographical/Historical Note

Robert Scholze Tannery was established in 1873 by German-born Robert Scholtze. Joined by his son George in the business in 1895, Robert was killed near his home by a runaway horse in 1907. In May 1930, the tannery was destroyed by fire, but George rebuilt. Even through the Great Depression the tannery thrived and continued until the tannery was again destroyed by fire in 1987 and never rebuilt.

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of a four-page colorful informational brochure for Robert Scholze Tannery, established in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1873. It served as an advertisement for the company to "Jobbers and Manufacturers", explaining its standard list prices on leather and tanned hides. On the back is an order form.
