This collection is a five-year diary of Nancy Lee Frye (Reynolds) of Rural Retreat, Virginia. The entries began in 1935 and ended in 1943.

Biographical/Historical Note

Nancy Frye lived in Rural Retreat, Virginia, where her father kept a store, and she may have become a teacher. Her almost daily entries indicated many dates with James Reynolds, her future husband who was from Blackburg, Virginia. Nancy was born September 7, 1912 and died January 25, 1988.

One Wythe County genealogy website stated that James and Nancy Frye Reynolds operated a grocery store in Rural Retreat, Virginia. (http://wythecountygenealogy.org/mvcemnr.html)

Scope and Contents

This diary began with a 23-year old young lady's daily entries from her life, with the last entry made on Mothers Day May 9, 1943.

The diary itself shows wear, the lock is broken, the back is faded.
