The two men listed, W.L. Hill and Thomas Massie, may have posted this notice for public notice. The text of the notice states: Massie's Mill, October 30, 1884 | We having seen a notice that is being circulated by Jacob Yost, denying having said in his speech at Massie's Mill that a decent negro was superior to a poor white man, and nailing the report as a lie, we, the undersigned do hereby certify that we were present on the 21st day of Oct. 1884, at Massie's Mill, and heard him state in his speech that a decent negro was better than poor white trash, or words to that effect. W.L. Hill and Thos. Massie | Subscribed and sworn to before me this 30th day of October 1884. R.W. Massie, J.P. Nelson County, Va.
