This collection includes handwritten and typed poems, some with S.G.S as author, one Christmas card with S.G.S. poem, one Christmas card from Katherine Glass Greene, a birth announcement, a letter to Curtis from W.B. Woodford Hackley, and some genealogical information.

Biographical/Historical Note

The identity of S.G.S. is unknown. In the genealogical information, the only surname mentioned is Strider. Others are referred to by initials, mostly born in the 1870s. The birth announcement is from Lt. and Mrs. Robert E.L. Strider II, October 22, 1943 for daughter Mary Holroyd Strider.

Scope and Contents

This collection includes handwritten and typed poems, some with S.G.S as author, one Christmas card with S.G.S. poem, one Christmas card from Katherine Glass Greene, a birth announcement, a letter to Curtis from W.B. Woodford Hackley, and some genealogical information. The letter to Curtis from W.B. Woodford Hackley came on University of Richmond, Virginia letterhead and is from the Department of Ancient Languages, on December 8, 1949. Woodford states he enclosed a copy of the pageant Under Three Flags, but it was not found with this collection. Woodford is inquiring about some sermons written by Elder Daniel James. Of the poetry, the one The Old Songs is dedicated to Miss Nellie, dated October 18, 1933.

This collection is open for use in the Dougherty Reading Room. An appointment for research is recommended. The Dougherty Reading Room is located on the 4th floor of Belk Library in Special Collections.
