Biographical/Historical Note

Joshua Watauga (which is not his birth name) is/was a peddler on the streets of Boone, North Carolina. On King Street he would sell his stories while newspaper articles were written as to Who is Joshua Watauga? The photocopied non-legal deed is for land in Boone on which he squatted as his residence for over a decade, dated July 3, 1987.

Scope and Contents

This collection includes two writings by Joshua Watauga (2 copies of one paper) and a December 8, 1999 newspaper article on him. Also in this collection is a non-legal deed created by Joshua Watauga as a protest against his being evicted off the Boone, North Carolina land on which he has been squatting for over a decade.

Acquisitions Information

The non-legal deed was donated by Billy Greer of the ASU Physical Plant January 13, 2003. The other papers' donor is unknown. Accession numbers AC.2003.001 and AC.2012.050
