Creator: Campbell, C. M.

Biographical/Historical Note

The diary may have belonged to Mrs. Mary A. Campbell, formerly Mary Adams, who married Cornelius Campbell in 1819, although the initials do not match. She was born in 1798 in Ireland and died April 18, 1876 in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The diarist briefly mentions a son named Johnnie and her husband Mr. C.

Scope and Contents

The diary contains personal daily writings of C.M. Campbell for the year 1861. It contains personal notes about acquaintances and family, daily weather reports, church attendance, health issues, and a short passage on the Civil War. The writer used abbreviations and initials, so a deep reading and study would render understanding of the writer's history. It is believed the writer is female as she refers to her husband as Mr. C. The memorial brochure for Mrs. Mary A. Campbell tells her life's history and emphasized her church activities. The photocopied page from the 1980 newspaper speaks to back pain.
