Biographical/Historical Note

At the 75th anniversary of its founding, Grace Lutheran Church had a celebration as well as a reflection on the people and events which contributed to the growth of its congregation. The church was organized on November 23, 1923 by Rev. Herbert W. Jeffcoat, a Watauga Mission missionary pastor with 30 original members, meeting in the Boone Courthouse. Five years later in 1928, the cornerstone for the first sanctuary was laid at its present site on the corner of King and Hardin Streets in Boone, North Carolina. Groundbreaking for the newer sanctuary was April 26, 1987 and that sanctuary was dedicated on May 22, 1988. From the original 30 members, Grace Lutheran has grown to over 650 in its parish today.
