The Paris F. French Papers includes tax receipts, promissory notes, deeds and survey, insurance assessments, and correspondence of Mr. French and/or his wife Josephine, dated between 1886 and 1932.

Biographical/Historical Note

Mr. Paris F. French lived in and around Abingdon, Virginia. His wife was Josephine, nicknamed Josie. They apparently owned real estate in Wahsington County, Virginia as the tax receipts indicate, and purchased a 1919 Ford Touring car in 1924.

Scope and Contents

This collection includes tax receipts for Washington County, Virginia, promissory notes for a sewing machine, deeds for land in Washington and Smyth Counties, Virginia, a contract for a 1919 Ford Touring car, as well as correspondence about a rental house probably located in Radford. Some items are handwritten and others typed. There is a handwritten survey of 55-1/2 acres with a drawing with the survey calls.


Most items are arranged chronologically with same-subject smaller papers enclosed in envelopes within the one folder.
