Biographical/Historical Note

Marion College was founded in 1873 as a college for women. Marion College was authorized as the Female College of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Southwest Virginia as successor to the Wytheville Female College. The college was located in Marion, Virginia, with Dr. John Jacob Scherer as the college's President. The college closed in 1967.

Scope and Contents

The collection contains one ledger titled Marion College Cash Book, No. 2 and one ledger with Student Accounts, 1938-1941. In the cash book, there is a 1917 Alumnae Association account toward the book's back. The cash book's front page says, C. Brown Cox, Financial Agent, in account with Marion Female College, beginning 1916.

This collection was processed as part of a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. The grant funded extensive processing of the backlog within the W. L. Eury Appalachian Collection between 2012 and 2014.
