Biographical/Historical Note

Dr. R.E. (Robert Edward) was the first medical doctor in Damascus, Virginia, and he practiced in the area for nearly 40 years. Dr. Fortune died on December 26, 1936.

This collection consists of papers of Dr. R. E. Fortune of Damascus, Virginia, 1903-1959. The collection includes a ledger book, canceled checks, bank books, correspondence, and receipts. Dr. Fortune died on December 26, 1936, and a few of the items deal with his estate after his death.
