Biographical/Historical Note

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park straddles the ridgeline of the Great Smoky Mountains, which is part of the Blue Ridge Mountains, which are a division of the larger Appalachian Mountain chain in the eastern part of the United States. It encompasses 522,419 acres and is one of the largest protected areas in the eastern United States. This park was the first national park whose land and other costs were paid for in part with federal funds. Other parks were funded wholly with state money or private funds. This is the most visited national park in America.

Scope and Contents

This collection is one color souvenir folder of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The inside flap contains information on the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee - North Carolina, and 18 images of the park. The folder was mailed to Mrs. Zenobia Bukovinski in Crawford, New Jersey from her son Bill in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1948.
