Biographical/Historical Note

James Larkin Pearson (1879-1981) was the second Poet Laureate of North Carolina. Pearson admitted to having a limited amount of education, working on the farm until 21, and composing many of his poems as he did his farm work. As I trudged between the plow-handles in the hot sunshine, my mind was busy working out a poem. In his will he bequeathed his collection of memorabilia, books and printing press to Wilkes Community College where it is now housed in the James Larkin Pearson Library in Wilkesboro, North Carolina.
