Biographical/Historical Note

This video was commissioned by the Blowing Rock Museum, Blowing Rock, North Carolina as a brief history to the culture and history of the area, with specific topics being mountain resort communities, the Cone family, African Americans, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Camp Catawba, Shulls Mill, and others. Several people were interviewed for this video, written and narrated by Rebecca Jones, in Summer of 2011, including Ralph Lentz II, Ginny Stevens, Neva Specht, Alex Bernhardt, Kyle Grove, David Spiceland, Joe and Elliott Dulaney, and Robin Dreyer. Several of the still photographs are copies of photographs located in the Appalachian State University Special Collections.

Scope and Contents

This DVD, Sky People: The Art and History of Blowing Rock, is a 15-minute orientation video created to introduce visitors to Blowing Rock and the High Country. Created by Rebecca Jones, it was commissioned by the Blowing Rock Art & History Museum in the summer of 2011.

This was processed by Anita Elliott, January 2014. This collection was processed as part of a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. The grant funded extensive processing of the backlog within the W. L. Eury Appalachian Collection between 2012 and 2014.
