Biographical/Historical Note

The Calcium Sulfide Corporation was given a charter on February 13, 1929. This plant manufacturing Cal-Mo-Sul fungicides and insecticides was built in East Damascus, Virginia, near the Douglas Bridge. Cal-Mo-Sul was the only maker in the United States of Calcium Mono Sulfide. During World War II, this company produced Barium Sulfide, necessary for the war effort. Officers were John L. Crist, president; A.W. Ristine, vice-president; R.C. Thompson, secretary; and G.A. Hall, treasurer. The first manager of the plant was A.W. Ristine. After 1932 George A. Hall was plant manager and vice-president until 1946 when the company ceased operations.

This ledger book fom the Calcium Sulphide Corporation of Damascus, Virginia contains its General Ledger with payroll, travel expenses, the Bank of Damascus account, and more, along with a Voucher Ledger for the years 1930-1938. On several pages are glued calculator tapes of figures.
