This collection features CDs and VHS tapes of Ronnie Hicks of Watauga County, North Carolina, a bluegrass and gospel musician, who was a member of the Cove Creek Ramblers and a faithful volunteer with the Project on Aging for 39 years.

Biographical/Historical Note

Ronnie Keith Hicks (1953-2006) was a well-known, Watauga County, North Carolina local bluegrass and gospel musician, playing with the Cove Creek Ramblers, as well as volunteering with the Watauga County Project on Aging for 39 years. The recordings are of interviews with Mr. Hicks in 2004 and 2005, accompanied by some of his music.

Scope and Contents

The recordings in the collection are of interviews with Mr. Hicks in 2004 and 2005, accompanied by some of his music.This collection consists of three CDs and two VHS tapes. The CDs have interviews with Ronnie Hicks from Marach 29, 2004, April 19, 2004, and April 18, 2005. The VHS tapes include interviews with Ronnie Hicks from April 18, 2005 and April 22, 2005. User copies of the interviews are available.

All audiovisuals and user/archival copies are housed in one shoebox.

This collection is open for use in the Dougherty Reading Room. An appointment for research is recommended. The Dougherty Reading Room is located on the 4th floor of Belk Library in Special Collections.

Acquisitions Information

This collection was donated by Karen Wilson, 2010. It was accessioned as AC.2010.043. In 2005, Stephen Moeller donated a collection of Ronnie Hicks' records and audiotapes.

Processed by Anita Elliott, March 2014. This collection was processed as part of a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. The grant funded extensive processing of the backlog within the W. L. Eury Appalachian Collection between 2012 and 2014.
