Biographical/Historical Note

Erik R. Blomstedt retired in 2009 as Director of the Three Rivers Library District serving the villages of Channahon and Minooka, Illinois. His interest in dulcimers and dulcimer music is evidenced by this collection of catalogs and information on handcrafted dulcimers across America. Many of the dealers sent him photographs of their crafts.

Scope and Contents

This collection of catalogs and information on handcrafted dulcimers was collected by Erik R. Blomstedt. Also included are photographs of dulcimers sent from dealers. Dulcimer music scores are part of the collection, including the following titles: Dulcimer Classicks, by Dorothy May; Dulcimer Songbag, by Dorothy May; Dulcimer Songbag for Christmas, by Dorothy May; A Fanciful History of the Dulcimer, by V.E. Hughes; Play the Dulcimer by Ear and Other Easy Ways, by Len and Su Mac Eachron;and The Plucked Dulcimer by John F. Putnam.

Blomstedt also donated several videos of dulcimer musicians and newsletters, which were incorporated into the open Appalachian Collection stacks.

This collection is open for use in the Dougherty Reading Room. An appointment for research is recommended. The Dougherty Reading Room is located on the 4th floor of Belk Library in Special Collections.
