Abstract:

The collection contains interviews and biographical information on individuals interviewed by University of North Carolina students in the mid-to-late 1970s. Most of the interviews were collected in the vicinity of Catawba County, North Carolina.

Biographical/Historical Note

These interviews were conducted as part of the Piedmont Social History Project, a subset of the Southern Oral History Program. The original documents copied within this collection are housed in the Southern Historical Collection, University of North Carolina Library, Chapel Hill.

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of typed interview transcripts and copies of biographical information sheets detailing the names and locations of interviewees. Also included are several student papers constructed from interviews and supplemental materials which outline the occupations and personal lives of the informants.

This collection is open for use in the Dougherty Reading Room. An appointment for research is recommended. The Dougherty Reading Room is located on the 4th floor of Belk Library in Special Collections.

The collection was processed and finding aid generated by Trevor McKenzie, November 2014. This collection was processed as part of a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. The grant funded extensive processing of the backlog within the W. L. Eury Appalachian Collection between 2012 and 2014.
