The Appalachian Literary Society was a club at ASU predecessor institutions, operating from at least 1912-1937. It is unclear if or when this group disbanded. It has, however, seen a resurgence and as late as 2010 was in operation. They state: Appalachian Literary Society, or AppL Society for short, is a club at Appalachian State University based in literature and creative writing, the club strives to promote literacy and creativity by means of service projects and other events to be scheduled in the upcoming meetings. AppL Society is great for Communication, Education, and English Majors as well as anyone interested in reading and/or writing.
