Many published materials relating to the Appalachian region and stock car racing are available for use in a browseable, open stack area inside Special Collections. Many items may be checked out. Materials marked "For Library Use Only" do not circulate. For loan periods, please see Borrowing Materials and Loan Periods.
Archives, Manuscripts, and Rare Books (Closed Collection)
Rare and fragile items that do not circulate are available for use in the Cratis Williams Reading Room within Special Collections. To learn about how to use these collections, please visit the Using Archives, Manuscripts, and Rare Books page.
Sessions are available for undergraduate and graduate courses and can be tailored to meet the needs of the instructor. Please give at least 3 weeks advance notice to avoid scheduling conflicts and to allow us time to prepare. Patrons may use an large-format, overhead scanner (KIC) and a photocopier in Special Collections to duplicate materials from the Open Stacks. Patrons will need to have an App Express card or bring nickels, dimes, or quarters for the photocopier. Use of the scanner is free.

The Viewing and Listening Room (Room 443) in Special Collections is available on a first-come, first-served basis for individuals or small groups who need to use Library-Use Only audio or video media from Special Collections. This room cannot be scheduled for classes or used for group study.
