Manuscript Collections

This collection includes records for the Appalachian Oral History Project, a combined effort of Appalachian State University, Alice Lloyd College, Emory and Henry College, and Lees Junior College to document oral histories of the history and folklore of the central Appalachian region. Materials in this collection consist of interviews and records generated by Appalachian State University interviewers between 1973 and 1975. Records include audio interviews, administrative files, photographs, and video.

B. Hartzog and Sons Ledgers consist of two unidentified and undated general store ledgers. Inserted documents, such as a Bank of Jefferson, North Carolina receipt, includes dates.  B. Hartzog and Sons Ledgers illustrate the purchasing trends of B. Hartzog and Sons' customers. It is presumably located in Ashe County, North Carolina.

The collection consists of a store day book entitled Boyd's Creek at the top of each page. The day book is noted as being from the vicinity of Sevierville, Sevier County, Tennessee. The amounts and totals of foodstuffs and household items are listed alongside the names of the individuals who purchased them.

This large account ledger has E.Grove on the spine, who is assumed to be the proprietor of a store in the Shenandoah area of Page County, Virginia. The ledger has entries dated 1869-1877.

This collection is a ledger of accounts from an unnamed general store in the Foscoe community of Watauga County, North Carolina, dating 1928-1934.
