Overview

This guide includes secondary source resources about photographs, primarily in the Appalachian region, and manuscript collections (primary sources) that include photographs. Manuscripts must be used in the Dougherty Reading Room. To schedule an appointment or for more information, email spcoll@appstate.edu.

Manuscript Collections

Draper High School Print illustrates a 12" x 18" black and white image of Draper High School, circa 1946.

This collection contains materials from Edmonds Printing, Inc., formerly the B. D. Smith & Brothers printing company, located in Pulaski, Virginia. It consists primarily of ledger books, publications, printing plates, and photographs focusing mostly on Pulaski and Wythe Counties, Virginia.

The Eliza Carrico Strider Photograph consists of one 2" x 4" carte-de-viste image of Eliza Carrico Strider, the second wife of Samuel W. Strider. Date on the back is given as 1866.

This collection includes a colorful 18-image folder of artist's renditions of the views inside and surrounding areas of the Endless Caverns, located in New Market, Virginia, in 1929.

This collection is a comb-bound booklet of Dr. Estle Pershing Muncy's color photographs and writings, with some copied facts and pictures, sent as a Christmas Seasons Greeting to George Brosky, circa 1987.
