Research Appointments for Archives, Manuscripts, and Rare Books

We welcome all visitors from both the campus community and the general public. All visitors must abide by the University's current procedures: https://www.appstate.edu/recovery/

Please use the page at this link (https://appstate.libcal.com/spaces?lid=13994) to book an appointment to use the archives, manuscripts, and rare book collections at the Special Collections Research Center (W.L. Eury Appalachian Collection, University Archives, Stock Car Racing Collection, and Rare Books and Manuscripts) at Appalachian State University.  Appointments are not required to access the circulating collections.

Virtual appointments are also available. Contact us at spcoll@appstate.edu for more information.

If You Are Not Able to Travel / Visit In-Person:

What you can do:

1. For archives, manuscripts, rare books, or non-circulating material: Write to us at spcoll@appstate.edu to begin a discussion of your research inquiry. If desired, we can schedule a virtual consultation with you to further discuss your request and assist you in identifying materials for duplication. We will try to provide digital copies of materials in lieu of in-person visits when possible. The availability of digital reference copies is subject to copyright, the condition of the materials requested, and usage restrictions. Receipt time of materials may be delayed as App State community members will receive priority attention.

2. Circulating materials: Circulating books from our collection may be requested by placing a hold through the University Libraries' catalog system. Holds may be requested for pick-up at the main desk on the first floor of Belk Library & Information Commons. Some materials from the circulating collection may be available through Interlibrary Loan. You can initiate a request through your home library.

3. Not sure where to begin? Contact us at spcoll@appstate.edu or 828.262.4041.
