Emily Kader is the Anne Belk Distinguished Professor and Curator for Distinctive Collections. She started her new position in September and oversees collection development and engagement for the W. L. Eury Appalachian Collection and the Stock Car Racing Collection. Before her arrival, Emily worked at Wilson Special Collections Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she most recently served as Interim Curator for the Rare Book Collection. She holds a Master’s degree in Library Science from UNC and a PhD in English, with a certificate in Women’s Studies, from Emory University. Her areas of expertise are Irish and Appalachian narrative folklore, the history of the book in Appalachia, and primary source pedagogy. She grew up here in Watauga County and is so very pleased to be back in the mountains. When she’s not working, you can find her gardening, hiking, thrifting, and (her new project) learning to sing. Or you might simply find her hanging out with her very bright and creative daughter Matilda, her very good and smart dog Noodle, and her brand new and quite rascally kitten Harrow.
