Special Collections Research Center Sticker Contest!

Winning entries will be printed into stickers to promote the Special Collections Research Center and our unique collections. Up to three winners will be awarded $300 each!

Interested applicants are welcomed and encouraged to visit Special Collections on the 4th floor of Belk Library to learn more about the collections and the space.  The contest closes on January 31, 2025 at 5pm ET. More details and information below.

Contest rules:

Sticker designs must be original.  Use of AI generated images will lead to disqualification. Infringement of intellectual property in sticker designs is prohibited.  Winners of the contest agree to the University Libraries' use of the sticker designs for Special Collections-related promotions and activities.  Only one entry is allowed per student.  Any entry that fails to comply with the contest's requirements will be disqualified and not considered by the judging panel.  Judges reserve the right to not select a winner.

Eligibility: Must be a current Appalachian State University student, undergraduate or graduate student, in good academic standing.

Design Theme: Must focus on Special Collections or SCRC collecting areas. More information may be found here: https://collections.library.appstate.edu/collections.

Design Requirements:

  • The design is limited to five colors maximum. Black and white, if used, each counts as a color.
  • All colors must be flat and solid, with no shading, blending or halftones.
  • There can be no colorless areas.
  • Must include the text “App State SCRC” and "University Libraries" in the design.
  • Entries should be suitable for a  3” x 3” or 3” x 4” size sticker
  • Minimum of 300 dpi
  • Acceptable file formats: .jpg, .png, .pdf, .ai (Adobe Illustrator), or .svg (Scalable Vector Graphics)

The Digital Media Studio and the Makerspace on the Lower Level of the Belk Information Commons are available resources to help prospective artists with programs and design! 

Criteria for Judging: Winning entries will be selected for how well they represent the Special Collections and associated collecting areas. Any entry that fails to comply with the contest's requirements will be disqualified and not considered by the judging panel. Images may be subject to approval. Three panels of judges will select one winning entry each for a total of three winning entries. The University Libraries will assume permanent ownership of the three winning designs. Designs will be judged during the Spring 2025 semester. 

Reproduction of winning designs: The University Libraries and the SCRC reserves the right to alter the design if necessary. This includes redrawing, resetting type, and/or changing colors.
