Since its advent, photography has had the power to shape perception through representation. There are hundreds of photographers who choose Appalachia as their subject matter; therefore, contemporary photographs continue to shape perceptions of modern Appalachia. This pathfinder serves as an introduction to the field of contemporary Appalachian photographs, as well as an introduction to the photographers living and working in the region today.
