Scope:
The scope of this pathfinder represents information relating to general stores in Valle Crucis, North Carolina from 1853 to the present. Within the literature on this topic, these include Taylor and Moore Company (c. 1853), Taylor and Mast Store (c. 1882) and the Valle Crucis Supply Store (c. 1909). The Taylor and Moore Company evolved into the Taylor and Mast Store. The Taylor and Mast Store and the Valle Crucis Supply Store’s structures are now used as stores by the Mast General Store. A substantial body of literature on the subject is drawn from I. Harding Hughes’s Valle Crucis: A History of an Uncommon Place (1995). However also relevant are clippings found in the W.L. Eury Appalachian Collection Clippings File at Appalachian State University, Boone, North Carolina.
