Hand Weaving of the Southern Highlands

Scope:

Only in the past one hundred years has there been written a significant amount of information on hand weaving in the Southern Appalachian mountains. Information can be found in the form of newspaper and journal articles, and books, some of which are about handcrafts in general and contain a section on weaving. A handful of books also exist on specific places related to hand weaving, or specific products. Bibliographic sources abound, while general information in encyclopedias and dictionaries is scarce. Cherokee hand weaving is not included in this Pathfinder.
