History and Development of the Appalachian Regional Commission

Scope:

Because the development of the Appalachian Regional Commission was such an involved and often controversial process, there are myriad resources available that detail the evolution and proceedings of the agency. This document is designed as an introduction to the literature outlining how the history of poverty in Appalachia and years of governmental proceedings led to the development of the Appalachian Regional Commission. A more exhaustive research will call for an in-depth look at governmental policies and specific statistical data available regarding individual counties located in the Appalachian Region.
