  • IGI (International Geneaolgical Index), 1988 edition The IGI is an ambitious project undertaken by the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints (Mormons). They have compiled an index of millions of names from parish registers throughout the world, available on microfiche. While the index is enormous in scope, it is by no means complete.

    The IGI is arranged in this order: Country /County /Alphabetically by surname /Chronologically Information contained in the Index:

    Surname and given name Marriages, the spouse’s name (women are listed under their maiden name) Births/christenings, the parents’ names Sex (M or F), or (H - husband, W - wife) Date and Place (in larger towns, this may be the actual parish)

    Type of event: A - Adult christening B - Birth C - Christening D - Death/burial F - First known child born (if there is no marriage date) M - Marriage N - Census S - Miscellaneous W - Will or probate
